WK2 Roof Loading

Hmmm..Has anyone noticed how the roof flexes with a roof rack on??

Well a close friend went to the Cape fishing with his Thule roof rack loaded..Weighed everthing to be sure he didn't overload 50kg max..Came back with a section of the roof concaved slightly..Lucky after unloading with a push from inside it popped back into shape...Said he noticed how it flexed on corrugations..Showed me how much movement there is by pulling down on my Rhino roof rack (unloaded) ..I got a surprise.

Moral of this is be very careful how you load up and where you place the heaviest items and DON'T climb up on the rack which I had a habit of doing with my Commander...I'd say roof top tents are out and tinnies certainly a no no.
I was under the impression the max roof load was 68kg. Still too low for my BMI

Must add though his WK2 QuadraLift performed flawlessly and bypassed several Jap brands stuck so that's a plus.

I have a rooftop tent and have had no troubles with the roof or the loading of the roof racks Mine is a 2011 wk 2 Laredo crd with quadra lift and I have several excursions with the tent and other times carrying two 9 foot Kayaks without any issues.
I am now in the process of changing from the roof bars to a tradesman roof rack which is around 1.8 mt long and screws down into the original rail mounts should spread the load even better as it replaces the rail & bar system. I am planning to do the cape in Sept/Oct this year and the Simpson next year and want a little more space for the camp chairs and table as they are light but tend to get in the way in the back of the wagon.

The limit is supposedly 68kg (150lbs), I've been trying to work out how I can carry a kayak, max trax, gas bottle, tents and camp furniture without going over the limit. I have read that others have gone up to 80-90kg without too many issues, so was hoping I'd be ok. I'll need to check for movement when I do get a platform up there, maybe the type of rack makes a difference.

Yep 68kg (150lb) is the OE spec and MUST NOT BE EXCEEDED..Well that's according to the Jeep specs....I weigh more than that so I'm not about to climb up on my Rhino Rack....I think the Thule system is only rated at 50kg and it mounts on the OE rails...The Rhino system has standoff brackets that screw down using the OE rail mounting points inside the OE rails without replacing them..The brackets that fit inside and are pretty damn solid but I don't think this alters the 68kg spec..

Rocky Road do a steel roof rail kit that replaced the OE rails and have a nice Crossbar Kit that mounts on them.

Gobi do this one that is supposed to increase load limit to 300lbs driving/600lbs static (not sure if it is available in oz)

Man that looks like major surgery ..Not sure what Rocky Road load rating is on theirs (I'll email them) but probably more suitable for the average offroader without major modification...GOBI 600lb (270kg) is massive
