Default Replace Mirror with Camera

Has anyone replaced there rear vision mirror with a reversing camera?

It is getting increasingly difficult to see anything out the back of my JK so I am wanting to replace the mirror with a full time camera. I've been wanting to do this for a while but have been unable to find an appropriate setup. In particular most displays seem to consist of a hybrid setup where the screen only occupies a small 3:4 corner of the mirror as apposed to completely replacing the mirror itself. The other problem is most only come on when you actually put the vehicle into reverse, though I'm sure I'll be able to fix that.

Every few years I check the market looking for a mirror replacement and recently I've come across 'Gentex' who have a "Full Display Mirror" model which actually looks pretty good but I'm having trouble finding details.

Here's a promotional video demonstrating the product:

Does anyone have a set up like this?

I have! Mirror was broken when windscreen was replaced. I got sick of how much the mirror blocked my view out of the front & installed one of these. I wired it up so the camera is always on. Couldn't see much in the mirror anyway, with the spare in the way.

2.4GHZ Digital Wireless Reversing Camera

That Gentex looks good, though.

You'd think that the manufacturers would have done something along these lines before now. I've seen nothing in the ADRs that mentions video cameras for rear vision. I good heads up display would be an ideal arrangement for the rear vision, including small pod on the driver and passenger side instead of the huge mirrors creating wind resistance.

Thanks Banshee.

I've looked at several 3:4 setups like that one over the the years but I 'm really after a unit to completely replace the rear vision mirror itself. As it is I already have a functional (-ish) reverse system set up to the head unit but what I really want is a screen that is as similar as possible to a standard mirror. While there are a grate many 3:4 (and some 9:16) options out there at a whole range of prices/quality I've never really been able to find much that approach the aspect ratio of a standard reversing mirror, until I happened across the 'Gentex' system above, but even now I'm lacking for details.

I am also concerned about how people go fitting these to the JK in particular given the removable roof. As in where to attach the camera itself and what is the best way to run cables to the display (assuming it's mounted in the mirror's location).

This is where I have the camera & screen for mine. Cables are tucked up into the trim over the windscreen and behind it on the right A pillar then down the side. I have an '08, so no side airbags to worry about. Camera just needs power as it is wireless to the display.

If/when it fails, I'll be looking at one of those Gentex units as well! Have you seen a price on them?

Ouch! They look great, but compared to $200AU. That's a big jump.
