Penrite has suspensed production of SIN Diesel, which is a real shame as it was their only fully synthetic diesel grade oil. Their rep is suggesting SIN Diesel users should switch to HPR Diesel 5 (which is a semi-synthetic but is graded for CI-4). Obviously they are trying to save a buck and SIN Diesel is not cheap to produce (the base stock would cost more to produce (or buy) than semi and the additive package is costly as well.
As I have been using SIN Diesel for some time now, I really don't want to go back to a semi (HPR 5). Since I have installed the GDE tune I no longer have an EGR soot problem so in theory there is no longer a need for a diesel graded oil (to keep soot in suspension and scrub the stuff out). I am thinking of going back to Mobil 1 5W-40 -Gold container stuff), as my mate who is a Jeep mechanic for a dealer tells me they are putting that in most CRDs except those with DPFs (which I don't have).
Be nice to be able to get Mobil 1 Turbodiesel as it is graded for diesels, but unobtainable as far as I can tell.
