Yes, will post more tomorrow. Everytime I do 12v in the car I have a new appreciation for those who do it for a living. I also think i've looked at every Wk2 brake controller thead ever posted in doing this install so might even be worthy of a sticky with links :

As far as I remember needs the trailer plugged in to get a response, you need to be able to get at the unit easily whilst driving safely as well...

It really needs the trailer connected to finish the set up. Assuming you're set in Automatic (Proportional) mode, the LED will glow red when braking with trailer connected. Also don't forget it needs 20 'braking events' to 'learn' its orientation and for the LED to stabilize.

My button is in the dash alongside the main lights switch. Needs to be visible and accessible.

Sorry about the sideways pic, don't know why that happens.

Cool thanks for the replies. I'm doing a solid drive to collect a camper, so want to be confident the brake controller is sweet before pickup. Redarc have an info sheet on testing without a trailer, so I followed that this morning. You basically solder up a trailer 21/5 bulb to some twin core to then connect it to pins 3 and 5 in the tow plug to simulate the electric brake load.

If you are me you then swear and pull your hair out for an hour following this because your plug is upside down so you have used the wrong pin.

After connecting to the correct pin, the controller wakes up when you start the car and everything works as expected. You can change it to manual mode to see the bulb get brighter as you turn the knob, and/or take it for a drive and once calibrated it will light the bulb in proportional mode which is pretty cool. (I put a couple of metres cable on the bulb so it could sit in the passenger seat).

Now to drill some holes for the controller. I'm thinking I'll go for somewhere on the shifter bezel as being 6'8" I don't have great vis on the headlight controls when driving.

The ones Ive seen they plant the knob bit just in front of the shifter, nice and handy and its easy to pop the side of the console as well............ forgot to mention that before ... duh............ I use a different controller, double sided tape holds it in place.

Don’t forget the MY11-13 doesn’t like led’s and the MY14 on doesn’t like filament bulbs,
