Default oil filter

hi guys just to let you know the z9 does fit the only problem you'll have fitting it is if your engine mount has started to collapse, anyway there is a more common filter that can be used its a ryco z68 its 4mm shorter at 120mm, the seal diameter is 1mm less at 70mm, and the seam diameter (widest part where its joined like a tin can) is 4mm bigger at 82mm. ive been using them for the last couple of years with no problems, had to find an alternative to the z9 because engine mount had got a bit soft and the filter was taking a beating when the engine rocked

I think there must be a difference between the 97 & update models. the Z9 definitely will not fit on a 2000 model.
What side is your spare on? (this will allow us to know if we are comparing like with like) The update has the spare on the left.
I suspect there are extra bracing on the chassis of the update near the steering box & so less room. The bull bar mounts are different on the update as well.
Does the Z68 have the non return valves etc & are they a diesel or petrol engine filter? ~ There is a difference.

hi lb40 yes it is the update, diesel only came out in that spare was on right but has dents on left to fit as well, filter has non return valve( not needed because filter hangs vertically)and before use checked with ryco the same filter paper is used in all oil filters and not a problem to use.Del

The later diesel XJ's (2000) have spare on the left. Mine has. No provission for it on right.

Del you are a genius !!
I have been doing some investigating.
The Z68 does fit & work !! It has application in diesels engines.
This opens up a range of alternates that are cheaper than a Z 596 !!

For those of you who still have the viscous fan clutch, I have some info.

The 2.5 TD and 5.9 equipped ZJ's have a different fan clutch to the 2.5 TD XJ's, apparently heavier duty. Looking through the Hayden catalog I've found that the XJ OEM fan clutch part # is 2771 and is listed as Heavy Duty. After more searching I found that there is a Severe Duty alternative, part # 2791. The Sever Duty version is thicker and a bit smaller in diameter. Both are available on Rockauto.com and the price isn't too dear either.

New clutch is Hayden 2791, old one is what came stock on the car:
