Default anyone else annoyed with there oil coolers?

everytime i go on a trip. same problem everytime.

bend a hose or pipe on my oil cooler piping.

so today i angle grinded the bastard and put about 40 odd cm of rubber oil cooler line in there with a little bit of give in the line aswell. so the tracking arms cant snap it off.

ill take a picture of it tomorrow. but essentially i have just removed all the metal piping around or near the axel and replaced it with rubber oil cooler line. 3 clamps on the tranny side and 2 clamps on the cooler side with some gasket maker on either end.

bit over the top but its pissing me off that everytime i go for a 4be that the same thing happens and it dumps my fluid and i have to spend 10mins getting saturated in ATF trying to put a new section of hose in.

sorry for my rant. but what i want to know. someone must have done this also? any bad side effects of having to much rubber hosing in there??

cheers

Did the latest XJ last week and yep ... Its a pretty common fix ... quite a few writeups around the place on it by others.

Concerns about the hose coming off can be eased by fitting double clamps or ensuring the hose has enough flex not to get pulled off the piping.

The oil pressure is buggerall really ... so leaks arent really an issue when clamped up.

yeah left plenty of flex in there are re routed the hosing around the tracking arms. instead of them sitting above it like stock.

tripled clamped trans end and double clamped engine end. hopefully it will be alright.

on another note, i ran a litre of ATF with my engine oil about 150kms before my service. runs alot smoother and have gone up a notch on my oil pressure.

are you unable to get a 3rd clamp on the engine? remeber that its only as strong as your weakest link....

tell me about it.

bloody annoying.

well the rubber line runs over the top of around 5cm of metal piping. with the clamps set further back. so in the event that there is a bit of push and tug. the pipe will slide, but not come completely off.

touch wood

I know its an oldie, but just read it. Whats the ATF in the engine oil supposed to do, clean oil passages? Regards oldon.
