Anyway, I ended up purchasing the 5W-20 from Chrysler. They gave me the Pennzoil 5qt bottles (~4.8L) at $60 each, discounted from $65 because I also got 3 x 4L bottles of Mopar ATF+4 for just under $60 each. I reckon I got a bargain there.

Decided to flush the transmission, replace the 2 filters inside (and gasket) and change the oil in the transfer case.

The US gets just as hot as here, so I can't understand the justification for the heavier 5W-30 oil.

I reckon if the correct 5W-20 Mopar stuff is available and not at a rip-off price , use it.

Changed the oil (5W-20) and filter a week ago and no CEL (code: 1521 - Wrong engine oil type) coming up.

it would seem that pennzoil have a deal to only supply jeep dealers in Australia.
i tried several auto shops and a friend of mine who owns an auto pro who can usually get anything and no luck with 5w-20.
Another friend of mine who owns a service centre and is an authorised jeep service rep but not for warranty work because we have a jeep dealer nearby had a few goes to get another oil besides mopar oil and has the ability now to direct import pennzoil.

Has anyone seen pennzoil 5w-20 in a shop? it is the right oil to use

i've used pennzoil for over 12 months i think and drive the hemi hard off road a lot of soft sand or sloppy tracks and everything is A.O.K. mds always works and yes a little valve gear clicking when idling but it is a hemi, even the old 426 hemi and my dad had the 392 and 223 50's hemi's they all had loud valve trains when hot and idling
