Mine will charge at 14.1/.2 if the battery is cold enough, usually in minus 7deg temps. Not sure about preupdates but mine has a temp sensor which tends to restrict the charge to 13.7/13.8 a fair bit of the time. That is measured off the battery and not the alt.

The OBD2 pre-updates have this sensor as well, mine being OBD1 doesn't have this sensor....

can be a bit annoying in the summer. But TBH I find that my XJ alt actually charges the batteries pretty well regardless. I say this because I only have to put the smart charger on for 15-20mins after an hour of driving and it says fully charged. Given that I would say that an AGM should be ok charging wise.
