Good effort. Having good working rear brakes on the XJ makes a world of difference. The hard part is keeping them adjusted nicely. I think there is a reversing and handbrake trick for that, or just manually get under the Jeep and turn the stars every once in a while.
As for your tranny mount. Don't even think too hard about it. The one in my XJ seemed perfect. It wasn't crumbly, didn't look worn and was still OK. I bought a new one anyway and put them side by side. The old one had compressed about an inch over the years. Once you have the funds, i would get a tranny mount and a left side engine mount just as a matter of maintainance. The left engine mount gets hot because its near the header. It crumbles and turns to crap. Then, it can put pressure on the header and cause that to crack.
Here is a pic of a bit of maintenance i did years ago. Have a look at that left engine mount. I can't remember which engine mount it is, but one of them is for right hand drive XJ's only.
