This is greeny propaganda at its best! It seams that every time a greeny sees a rutted & unmaintained track with scrap marks on some rocks its 4wd vandalism
Genowlan Point has been gated & fenced already for the reasons I actually agree with but to close the track because of perceived potential damage to "near by" cultural & ecological sites is draconian & heavy handed. The majority is being panelised for the actions of the few (again). I have never seen any vandalism as suggested in the draft & I as a local have been going there for years.
The Mt Genowlan track has been unchanged for the past 10 years & more & it is the ruggedness of the track that entices the enthusiast & restricts the general public from traveling past the camp ground at Mt Airly.
This is a single lane track with no bypass tracks to avoid obstacles, a 5 metre (at its widest) strip of bush track that is only there because 4wd's traverse it. Stop the 4wd's & the bush will quickly swallow up the track & there will be NO access for bush walkers or mountain bikes.
I knew this day was coming but hoped I would never see it.
Here's an idea? How about NP put some erosion & sediment traps in place to protect the waterways & surrounding bushland? Actively encourage the use of these rare & unique places. Signpost & put in place track markers so responsible 4wders like the majority of us can enjoy our past time with minimal impact on the environment. In other words educate the un-educated, make these areas a place to use not abuse. Locking up an area is not managing, its just plain lazy.
The NSW Government should take a leaf out of the state of Nevada's book in the United States where they manage the Rubicon trail, not lock it up.
But noooo, lets preserve it by shutting the gate for all Australians NOT to see.
