Question 0km To Empty

OK It's Competition Time

Once that fuel light comes on;
Do you duck in for a splash and dash OR
Keep driving to your favourite servo?

So who's driven the furthest with the 0km To Empty ?
State your model, engine & transmission

I will start off today with a measly 7km
WH Grand Cherokee, CRD, auto

XJ diesel, i get 50 km from when the light comes on until it shows DTE =0km. The best I have ever got once DTE =0 is 52km. Have never run out. I regularly do 30 -35km on DRE =0. No dirt in the bottom of the tank.

We did 45-50km in our 2011 JK Sport after the old 0km popped up. Can’t remember how much petrol we filled up with. To be honest, I was just happy the wife didn’t have to push.

About 20+ years ago, I was 100km east of Cobar (eastbound) on the Barrier Highway in my 4.0L auto 1995 Cherokee Sport with the low fuel yellow lamp lit and needle past empty.

Wasn't sure why as I had done the 500+ km on the one tank (76 litres) non stop in daylight between Cobar and Broken Hill in the outward journey.

Freaking out, I tried to keep revs low running between 60-80km/h. It's a miracle we crawled into the Shell servo.

How did it happen? I filled the tank fully at Broken Hill the nite before departure. I lost fuel with excessive braking avoiding what seemed like hundreds of mobs of kangaroos between 2am and 6am. At night be prepared to use more fuel due to the variation of speeds along the highway or risk serious panel damage or worse.

According to the XJ manual, the low fuel lamp illuminates when the tank is down to its last 15 litres. That is about 100km of driving.

20 years later, I always stop at Emmdale for a top up, no matter what.

Another pet hate on our KL, as soon as the fuel light comes on the DTE which is usually about 45km changes to simply a vague "Low"..... WTF Jeep engineers...
