i might have thought about bending the A-frame to keep it on piece mate, might be a little late now but it means you have a frame and then a body on top of it

if were good on a CAD program id show ya

I did think of that but the A-frame is thicker material than the main rails. It would have also put a stress point in the frame as I'd have to cut it to bend it and then weld it up again. You wouldn't believe how many times I've gone over this on forums etc before coming up with the final design

Cheers
Steve

Got a fair bit done today, should have the main frame finished tomorrow ready for spring mounts etc.

Cheers

That type of attachment is fine for on road but not long term offroad on corrugations. You should also never weld the A frame across the top ( when up the right way ) where it goes under the body frame.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, I know not to weld across the A frame on top and wont but not sure what you mean by 'that type of attachment' Also remember this will primarily be on road, Fraser and club trips will be the worst it will see typically, I wont be doing long distance touring offroad with it, for those trips it's just the two of us and a we go more minimalist.

If you make what is similar to a front box spring mount to increase the weld area to the body you should be fine or the extra bracing rather than just relying on just the A frame to body points. You do miss out of re-enforcing the front spring mount with the end of the A frame though is the only thing but that could be achieved with bracing too. Just works well having both doing the job for each other.
Doing the work you say though should not cause concern but don't be surprised to be touring with it in a few years time too over much longer Outback roads. Gets in your blood after starting out on small trips.

Also Steve, is the wheel placement now where it will end up when finished exactly? Cant tell from this angle, but how much space do you have between the inside tyre and the frame? I have been surprised just how much you need. Seems hard to work out as it is when one wheel drops and the other is compressed, the tilting in at the top of the tyre causes rubbing inside the wheel well if not enough. The taller the tyre the more of course it does it so you can not go off what people with on road trailers have.
