Default The Super Band-aid

So... I've never had time to fix this properly and I am tired of my bandaids not even working by bandaid standard.... My trans cooler line was bashed heavily by my upper control arm a few weeks ago on the beach, according to my local jeep guru the bolts were in backwards they would hut the lines and the top of the sump if i jumped or flexed hard... Instead of taking the load off, lifting and turning the bolt around I cut it off at the end so it now sit's flusher than it would have anyway, but my cooler lines keep bursting the silicon and tape seal I applied them with, getting sick of having to do this every second day this is my super bandaid untill I can find a good flaring kit, get some hydraulic hose and the time to fit it...

Its the insert of some garden hose (near perfect inner diameter) I cut it to size and coated the inside in Sikaflex, with a split in the side a put it on the line (which i cleaned up), gave it a half turn and coated the side seal and the ends of my hose piece to seal it around the line... I really hope this holds for now, wish me luck

I busted my line while away on work, 1200km from home, only had basic tools. Went to hardware got a cheap pipe cutter, cut out the stuffed section, took it to hydraulic hose place and got some hose and 4 clamps to suit. put the hose in place with two clamps on each end and its still holding strong to this day. No need for flaring. I do need to replace it soon cos the control arm has had another go at it :/

You're right, I'd have to drain it first... but if a cheap cutter was only a few dollars why not

The tubes are steel not aluminium, I certainly would be using a grinder as I don't think the rubbish in the lines from the cut off wheel would do the trans any good.
I squashed mine up the cape the first time and I used a pair of bolt cutters to remove the damged section and then opened the tube up again with vice grips, worked fine and yes I know it sounds rough.

Also yes your control arm bolts are in back to front, the nuts are towards the outside originally, less to hit that way but if you fix your bump stop issue this won't happen any way....

Now let's not speak of my secret bumpstop issues

The Band-aid busted today at the first good flex...

So first thing tomorrow I'll go get some hydraulic hose, and re-route the lines away from the flamin upper control arm

See how that goes.

JJ, the cape doesn't sound like an ideal place to bust a tranny line
How did you do the repair? (apart from bolt cutters and vice grips )
