My opinion may not be the best as I have not run Vista extensively. I downloaded W7 Release Candidate as soon it came out and had no real problems running it so decided to build myself a new PC buying the hardware the day W7 went on sale. I ended up going for the 64 bit version mainly due to RAM availability.

I have found overall operation is very smooth and user friendly, network applications built in make life easy and I only had one piece of hardware (my gourmet USB DAC) fail to install drivers wise-this was working ok with the 32 bit RC version.

I built my new machine with a Kingston SSD solid state hard drive for the OS and programs, later I read that this was a pretty cheap drive and should be avoided. I mention the drive as I have had the OS freeze up maybe 6 or 7 times since I've had it which required a reboot. Maybe my HDD had something to do with the frezing up, not sure but it normally happens when the PC is left on & unused for extended periods (may be able to adjust power settings to resolve this)

I found that the 64bit version didn't play as many of my games as the 32bit RC did but I guess that is to be expected. Overall I like it and don't think I'd go back to XP (for my desktop PC anyway).

So would anyone recommend it as a upgrade, as I would need to do it that way to keep everything intact on lappy.
