The old plug seems fine to the naked eye, but there must be some damage to the thread which I cannot see. Difficult to say, but if I look very closely it appears as if the thread is not even all the way around. It doesn’t make sense as I screwed It out by hand.

The bonus is I’m no longer stuck with the Allen style one as a regular 20mm socket now fits on it.

Hmmm....sounds quite weird, Allen head sump plug and odd size.
