I am still waiting for people to post pics from their Easter break visit to the Lake. The ABC News website has some of the latest pics.... and coverage of the fill. Bigger than 1989??? Hey, it could be the biggest yet, particularly if there are further rains in outback QLD and even in the local area...

Also, if you did not see any water back in April, chances are, you would be swimming in it now according to the latest landsat images available at the Lake Eyre Yacht Club site.

Of course, there is more than one way to arrive....in a Jeep.

Once again the size of the flood & amount of birdlife around the lake is being grossy over exagerated by the media as reports on other forums from people just back last week say they flew over the lake & saw a total of 10 birds in 2 hours! Then when they drove out to Halligans bay the water was only just in sight & then only a few inches deep.(Definately no swimming ) As the water in all rivers feeding the lake is receding the chance of a repeat 1989 event is all but gone. Locals are suggesting that the water may peak slightly higher than it is currently is late June & most likely the birdlife will follow the water down to the lake then.

Lake Eyre Yacht Club is reporting that the Warburton has began to flow...and it was only a matter of time before it did given the heavy rains in the North East.

Are we set to have a bigger flood than in 2009? Most of it is from QLD floodwaters but there has been local rain recently as well.

I have dug up this old thread because water flows in large volumes are again expected to start filling the lake around March 2019. This is all thanks to the recent deluge across Queensland with waters draining into channel country.

Lake Eyre is amazing to visit in the dry, with salt crust going all the way out to the horizon.

It is something else when full.
