Default Tapping under the XJ

Was wheeling today to give the new suspension setup a run-in. When in low range I can hear a tap tap tap (sounds rotational) which I always thought was a tyre touching on the sway bar. Today I could hear the noise in a straight line at times.

Feels like it is coming from under the passenger seat, or dare I say the gearbox area. No other issues, just a noise.

Any ideas?

The mount isn't very old (new one) so I don't think that's it.

I have similar.

Does anyone know how much room is above gearbox, if you have just put a new mount in and it started, i just put a TnT customs HD bellypan (that i had to raise g/box by 10mm) and now i get it, on hard acceleration or any acceleration with load on, ie trailer. I also get it on some tight LH corners, thought it was tyre rub, but can't find any evidence of this.

wish i could find the rotational noise - concerned it may be serious, if i knew what it was i could either fix it or live with it if its OK

I'm no expert, but doesn't that sound like pinion angle? Seems right to get it after a transmission lift. But like I say, I'm not an expert on this stuff.

I'd be looking at Unis both in the driveshaft to make sure they are not maxed out and on the front axles for wear etc. Noise travels under there and it can be hard to pinpoint something from inside the Jeep if it's metal on metal.

Cheers
Steve
