Basically you feed +12v to your switch, use this switch to control a relay, (switched +12v into 86, gnd to 85) use the contact of this relay to switch the ground (from the yellow wire from the head light loom) (30 to headlight loom, 87 to gnd)

And can I say I'm jealous of the white duco, as much as i love the "british racing green" colour of mine I think i'd be more smitten with white.

While on the subject, were there acutual names for the XJ colours?
