Default Catch can on the PCV outlet tube for 3.6

I’ve been thinking about putting a catch can on the PCV outlet tube that runs back to the intake... I think it’s a great idea.... has anyone done one?

Isn’t the JK pentastar port injected? Catch can is good idea on Diesel or a petrol direct injection but I can’t imagine worth putting on a port injection as you can easily clean valves ect... with common fuel additives. The only reason for a catch can is to trap oil vapours which are directed back into the intake, and for example, on a direct injection those vapours cause carbon build up on your valves and because of where the fuel is injected additives can’t clean up the crap. On a port injection you don’t have to worry too much about that. If yours is direct injection then of course, a catch can is a great idea !

Well not sure about others but both my PCV output pipe and the right head pipe both get plumbed back into my upper intake... the one from my pcv to the upper intake behind the throttle body and the right head vent pipe to the intake air box above the filter...

Also the area above the valves are/ were dirty as and oil residue is in both the upper intake and lower manifold... hence why I’m thinking of plumbing in a catch can...

Additionally when I take it all apart and fully clean it I no longer have white smoke on acceleration up hill however after a month or two of not cleaning it all out the smoke returns...

You could for sure, but I would also be using a good injector cleaner to keep it clean every now and then.

No, it won't. The injector cleaner will help the injectors & valves, but the oil is building up & accumulating the the manifold. Then, once enough is there, making it's way into the engine to be burnt, resulting in the smoke, & once again, an oily, dirty manifold.

I've seen what it looks like inside the one on my 3.8...

I already use a good quality total system cleaner once a month and I only use premium fuel, not E10...

Banshee is spot on and is exactly what’s happening...
