i do it plugs into a portable where the extention mic goes have 2 speakers in the helmet and a mic all thin dont even notice they are there and i have a small button under my thumb to use to talk
and if i am traveling alone i can plug the mp3 into it

Ctcss is code tone calling some UHF's (gme, icom etc) can be set to transmit a tone (inaudible) as you talk, it works such that radios set on ctcss will ignore any signal that doesn't have the tone.
works well when you don't want to hear all the other users around - just your mates.
unfortunately even though you can't here all the other non ctcss users, they can still hear you
