Default Stranded 05 KJ with ignition problems

Hi guys.

I would need some urgent help please. Went shopping and try to start the KJ and the ignition key is just turning without resistance. There are no audible "clicks" as normal when I turn the key either. When I turn the key backwards I get the radio to work but that's about all.
Any way of getting mobile again in a hurry?

Cheers and thanks
Tom

Sounds like a broken ignition actuator pin, pretty common unfortunately.

If it is, the bad news is you aren't going anywhere and jeep will want around $1500 for a new steering column.

The good news is you can get an aftermarket replacement (I got a dorman products one) and fit it yourself.

I'll dig up the instruction video and link it, you can then pull it out and see if it has indeed snapped.

Edit: according to this you can still get it started: http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f196/how...gnition-51549/

"If you are stranded you can get the Jeep going by removing the ignition switch....the electrical unit....off from the actuator. So you will need the two Torx bits.
Then with the normal key turned in the ignition barrel to unlock the steering wheel and to enable the SKIM security system if fitted....use a small flat screwdriver to turn the ignition switch to Start.
The thin sliver of plastic going down the center of the actuator pin is there to enable the BCM to "beep" at you when you leave the key in the ignition after turning Off...it serves no other purpose!"

Here you go: http://youtu.be/W5m31g0-3wI

There is one for sale on ebay at the moment from a NSW seller. Bit more than what I paid from amazon, but at least you'll get it quicker.

Thanks mate for the info.
Found the youtube clip already and took the pin actuator out. Sure enough its broken. Lucky the wife doesn't mind me robbing her KJ of bits (as long as they are returned)....both Jeeps back home now. Will get the one from ebay and buy a second one for the spare parts bin.
Thanks again for the quick help.

Couldn't find the one on ebay. Placed a order for 2 of them. Let's hope the 8-10 days delivery are correct from the US.

Smile Jeep Igniton problem

Thank you Thom&Phet. Jeep broke down due to ignition problem & repair workshop told me I could only buy a full replacement column at about $2,000 fitted as no actuator switch pin assembly was available for sale in Australia. Just ordered this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DORMAN-92...item5d4f09a439 .
