Default Quadralift to Springs

Well, Haven't driven the car in 5 weeks due to having an operation, started it every few days and after a few days the right rear airbag would be fully down. I now know the source of the hissing I can hear going over speed humps and while offroad. The airbags are bloody expensive to buy, cars only done 110k but I see these things failing at some stage.

I do like the air suspension, however it has me nervous when out bush, clearly something that could leave you totally stranded. My front shocks need chaging too as it'sa little bouncy

I've read a ton of posts about converting it to steel springs, looks like you need the springs, shocks and the top hats and isolators etc. Easily done, rip out the air, chuck i the standard suspension and win. I've fired off some messages to the link below as it looks the goods and they assure me it comes complete ready to bolt in place with the spring mount etc, plus I like the fact it's adjustable.

I wouldn't be able to fit it myself as I still can't use my arm for another 7 weeks, even then it's light work only

What you think fellas?

Looks the goods, you would have to change everything the only thing that would worry me is the computer going to have a spaz when it doesn't get any sensor feed from the Air ............. It looks like the rear springs are bolted at the base instead of just being held by the weight of the vehicle and I like the option of having a camber adjustment possible on one version of the top plate for the front, I would go for that if available for the Jeep.........

Technically I think it would require a mod plate as a change from original design.

I don't think it would require a mod plate unless going higher.
The rears come with the bolt down plate supplied as the air has it built in to the spring. The kit is designed for ripping out the air and another for if steel springs from factory.
I too like the adjustablity of it and being able to soften the dampers offroad etc.
As for the computer, it will throw an error for the first 15 seconds or so after startup and I have read that people have deleted the air suspension sales code in Alpha. This way I could chuck the tank thats behind the rear seats and put my second battery in that space

I do think that is a lot of effort converting something like this. One of the best fail safes I have seen online when it all goes pear shaped in the bush is just inserting a schrader valve with 1/8 NPT to to the front top airbags and disconnect the compressor. Inflate the bags and good to go normally until back home. I just have not seen the entry point to the rear two bags so suspect are the same. Over all the forums, their are very few failures compared to other issues we face and blowing an airbag is even less of an issue, are you sure its not the airline issue needs attention first and at least the car will take in air to restore once diagnosed. Bags are cheap on the rear and I am told very easy to replace unlike the fronts.

the air in the GC's is pretty darn reliable . Like mousie said i would be more concerned about other systems shitting themselves before i would even think start to think about the air shitting itself . ive wheeled with plenty of air equipped gc's and all the issues with any cars have had nothing to do with the air.

I would also never go back to a coil sprung gc ever

My rear springs just sit on/in rubber pads, thats it ......... unless there is some hard bits with the air to remove putting the shocks and springs in is simple stuff and if someon els is doing it even easier..........................

I agree with Mousie, regards to bags failing, while never had them on small stuff on the big stuff it was always air lines and fittings that gave grief, odd occassion a bag would get staked, on my truck I had the spanner blokes fit small tap at top of bags so if a line failed I could pump up the bag and shut off the air before isolating the line, worked a treat...

For what its worth Grippy...a 'leaking bag' will 98% of the time be a fitting or hose...not the bag...had several of mine 'bagged' for 'load/towing' purposes and only 'leaks' were ever a shitty fitting or hose 'rubbed/crimped' caused by some poor installation (not me this time) or foriegn object collecting the piping during some stupid (Yep...even I was young at some stage) 4WD....'hold my beer'...attempt...apart from that mate...bags are king....you will spend a few grand...or more...trying to replicate what you have...even then you still may regret it...you just wont have the 'flexibility of ride height' you now have...jus sayin

ps: take it ezy tiger...give that arm a chance to repair...dont let frustration cause a longer term injury...will catch up if I come to the big smoke over the next or so...cheers !!!
