Hi Renovator, the son is here, so I asked him how he did the install.
Apparently, he just cut out the Boston amp completely.
Used the canbus pairs at the amp to join the rear speakers to the head unit, as these cables run the full lengh.
Then for the front, just cut the speaker cables at the front foot well, then added cable to extend them up to the head unit.
He put the the front door and pillar speakers in series, to increase the impedance, hasn't blown them yet.
I thought he didn't spend a lot of time on it.lol

Default Eliminate Stereo EMI

If you have a stereo system with the Boston Acoustics amplifier
and an annoying high pitched whine, this is how I remedied mine

Purchase good quality shielded audio cable
Disconnected battery
Removed headunit fascia
Removed headunit
Remove fan control panel
Removed centre console
Removed passenger seat
Removed rear seat base
Removed rear passenger lower door trim
Removed rear passenger C pillar seat belt trim
Removed wagon lower door mould
Removed wagon upper door mould
Removed wagon floor
Removed left hand upper D pillar wagon trim
Remove left hand wagon trim

Laid new speaker cable from head unit, alongside hand brake,
under carpet, under rear seat, under rear insulation, to amplifier.

Located dashboard wiring harness for stereo
Cut four wires

green / violet
green / dark blue
white / tan
white / blue

Trimmed all extra shielding from this end

Paired wires to same colours at front connection of amplifier

All shielding was earthed at amplifier end

ALL connections were soldered
Reconnected front passenger seat
Reconnected fan control panel
Reconnect amplifier
Reconnected head unit
Reconnected battery
Enjoyed whine free stereo

Disconnected battery
Reassembled interior
Hope that helps
Cheers

It is guys like you and Clarky, that make life easier for the rest of us.

The son was impressed, he said that is the way it should be done, but he is too slack.lol

Default Interior Door Handles

A while back the interior door handles started falling apart

Fitted the replacements up today
They are provided with metal reinforcement pockets
First up remove the trim
My favourite weapon is a steel rule
It's round on one end and thin enough to slide around
When I can feel it hit a trim clip, just give it a twist
There's usually one I can find that'll pop out
Then slide the ruler around and use my fingers

Trim the top off the deformed plastic pedestals with a forstner bit

The big issue with this kit is the poor quality screws
Some without screwdriver recesses in the heads,
Some with heads too small to grip onto the metal backing

Some too long,
and I didn't notice until it was too late

I found some 8G x 20mm sheetmetal screws so I ground them down
but they proved a little too thin to tighten
Might try some 10G's later on

I ordered the beige set and they are a bit too pale to match my khaki interior

Cheers All

Default Thanks

Wanted to say thanks for the PM's wishing me well
You'll all be glad to know the Jeep survived the Townsville floods
You'd be proud of her too
She helped deliver quite a few sandbags,
many trips through floodwaters for pump and drainage supplies,
even helped old girl next door to get out cause it was all too much for her.

The rear wiper is refusing to move,
the horns sound like a some weird alien gargling,
the tubes to the sunroof are now leaking down the A Pillars,
and I had to remove the interior because peeee-yew.

Yep there was even too much water for the tree frogs
Poor little buggah stunk to high heavens

Last count over 3,500 vehicles written off up here,
but the Grand Cherokee wasn't one of them
