Default Strange noise
Hi all &);$0)(&&$ hot here in Perth.
Just noted a strange engine noise today that I have never heard before,
If I accelerate hard I can hear a light metallic noise that seems to be coming from the lhs of the engine,
It almost sounds like I have low oil pressure, I have checked the oil and all is in order, could it be something to do with how hot the day was? Temp gauge was normal, performance normal.
I'm ready for an oil change however the oil is still clean.
Is it Possibly the oil is losing it's viscosity with the heat?
Oh it's a diesel not a petrol as well.

Could it be pinging? Or does that only happen to petrol engines??

EGR openning to bleed boost off.More noticeable in hot weather, Sounds like a tin can/exhauts leak from the LHS behind the dash.

I reckon Midnight may have nailed it, however I have a gd tune and erg should be turned off?

I don't think the GDE tune turns the egr off completely, it just keeps it off during normal conditions but still allows it to operate to bleed off excessive boost pressure in some circumstances. Having it closed all the time could damage the engine, or at least I'm sure that's what I read somewhere when I was getting mine.
