Unhappy

Sorry to see you go and that you had a bad experience with the German inspired Liberty...or so called Jeep Cherokee.

Yeah, you don't like KJs. So what? Do you own one? Are you forced to drive one? Are your comments relevant to this thread? No. So pull your head in. Vehicles like the new Compass appeal to a large market, like it or not, which allows DC to keep producing niche vehicles like the awesome new Wrangler. Sure we'll never see anything like the XJ ever again, that's a shame but it's because it was an SUV in its time and compared to modern SUVs they get crap gas mileage, have terrible interiors and handle like a drunk cow. KJs were Jeep's attempt to update and compete with SUVs whilst still retaining some semblance of off-road capability. And I for one think they did a great job.

I'm with you on Jeep prams and bikes though, awful.

Jeepdownunder, it's a shame that you have such a poor opinion of the KJ. Having owned a couple of XJs, I can see what Jeep were trying to achieve. By the way, the Germans had absolutley no input into the KJ design. The merger came too late for that, however, Mercedes production techniques were included into the new Toledo North Assembly Plant which was built specifically for the new KJ.

Another fact : the KJ has been the lowest cost DC vehicle on a per-car/dollar/warranty basis. This info is a year or two old, but at the time DC included Mitsubishi as well. Either that means that KJ is really damn good, or all the Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishis are really bad.

By the way, my 2004 has nearly 50k on it and is still on the original pads and discs. I always travel with two on board and 90% of my ks are hard on the car, being Parramatta Road and all. So I don't know what you blokes are doing destroying discs at 20k.

If any of you have concerns about Jeep reliability these days, you should feel very sorry for anyone driving a European brand.

We're not the one's destroying them.....they are basically ************ from the factory. I've never destroyed a set of rotors in my life on a new car before. My jeep drives mostly about 20k's a day to and from work - all at under 60km'h (I live inner city in Perth), which mind you is nothing like Paramatta road with all that stop start driving. I'm glad Jeep came to the party and replaced them no questions asked.

Ditto that.

AFAIK the rotors are warrantied for 12 months or 20,000kms. I was suspicious when my Jeep went in for some other warranty work when it had done 22,000km (so the rotors were coincidentally just out of warranty) and the service centre more or less forced me to change the rotors and pads, saying they were unsafe and talking about not letting me take it away without signing legal waivers.

I thought they were swindling me, but it seems there was a genuine problem with the brakes. The replacement rotors I had are fine though.

Now, if only they could get the air-con working properly!
