Default Steering wheel change out

Steering wheel leather is getting all chewed out and ugly. Got a quote for 750+ to replace what is there. While holding onto the car for 3-5 day.

Just wondering is anyone has managed a DIY leather replacement (I'd have a crack but no sewing machine to set up the stich holes straight.)
Or if anyone has managed a change out and over to a different wheel, say out of a 2012 GC? Given and bosshead or airbag fitment issues?
Seems they are bountiful in comparison to a commander.

Thanks in advance, D.

Did you post on facebook?
I've had this in my saved eBay for a while but the language barrier makes me hesitant to pull the trigger

A Commander wheel of the same year will fit a WH, only the airbag is round like the SRT8 and yes the Commander airbag is compatible with the WH as well.

Here is a WH one in WA. I have found a lot of parts on eBay by searching "Grandcherokee" as one word.

Thanks bud,

Was hoping for a new one out of a box, though that will be near impossible I think.

Oddly enough I was just having a look again just now and came across a company called redlines leather goods.

They have the patterns for a large variety of wheels. Including you guessed it a commander. And actually looks a lot like the German ebay one you pointed without the delivery price. They are a proper tight factory fit designed for each wheel the cater for. They options are large from leather to carbon fibre, black through yellow as well as Italian flag stripes. If you like that kind of thing.

https://www.redlinegoods.com/Commander0610shiftboot.php

I have elected to go for regular leathers top and bottom, perforated leather sides, thicher padding (std wheel is super thin. I think we can all agree) and the thumb grips (just to change it up some more) . All pulled together with a tan stitching to contrast and match the lighter interior.

Hopefully it looks great and will have positive feed back in a couple of weeks time once delivered.

Attached below is their ordering menu, with preview selected, and pics of their work should anyone be interested.

I have also been looking at redoing my Steering wheel as well.
I came across a place in Adelaide SA that that dose at sorts of high end cars etc i had a quote from for 250 with a days turn around i reckon it was and im pretty sure that was with them removing the wheel etc. you can also have it any way you like.
I dont get to Adelaide very often so have thought about posting it over to them.

IM pretty sure this was the Mob.

Hey thanks for that. Unfortunately the commander is the daily driver so sending away is not really an option for us.

Gone with the DIY wrap for the time being hopefully it is as good as it looks and fits shmick.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again
