XJ: $400 Cherokee

thought i should start a "Build" thread as i spam the "what have you done.." thread everyday.

i do all this from home with all the skills ive taught myself.

have wanted a jeep forever

this shitter came up for $500


was apparently repairable write off (turned out not to be)
talked him down to $400 and drove home. happy days.

so its been to 4 different countries
america, japan, NZ and here...

came with a 2 inch lift and thats about it.

needed tyres so got some second hand 31's for $120


dash was boring me


installed shackle relocaton kit

made a crappy front bar cause i hate alloy bullbars (soon to be changed)



cured cancer


cut front guards out



cut rear out



bit more room


cheap as bonnet vents, thanks to bunnings



made roof basket
used 32?mm 3mm thick gal pipe
have pushed it hard against trees and seems to love it






picked up some genuine dynamic rims for a crazy $70
15x8 4.5inch b/s


upgraded the tranny cooler
this came off an AU falcon ute


cut lower rear quarters off







started on some rock sliders
havent finished as other ideas with these are in progress
50x75x3mm
angle is 75x75x5mm in 1oo and 150mm lengths






cut sill to lift sliders up higher






front and rear bar coming soon....

$400 complete XJ now thats what I want. I saw a 95 engine, trans TC on Gumtree for $200 about an hour from me which I wanted to get but was a little short and now the listing has ended.

didnt think i could really go wrong for 400...
i knew it drove fine etc
have driven it from surfers to sydney and back with no issues

I know $400 is nothin. Even if you trash it you could still part it out and get back more than what you paid for it.

sorta the reason i went with it
i am rather well known to get good deals also
a few friends hate me for it
sure its not in great condition, but a $4000 xj punished and run against trees/rocks wouldnt be either
plus left funds for upgrades haha
