i actually have that trans in my lexus
So i could do some measuring
it seems the control of the trans is why it hasn't been done, after hours of research.
I'm only assuming now, perhaps I should use Google , but being a Toyota only box is it run/controlled by an integrated ECU. ?

I just went out and dropped the inspection plate off the front of the box. Well....bugger me..!!!!!!. All 4 converter bolts were all loose to the tune of about two turns each. Loctite and a long 15mm spanner and a screwy locking the flywheel sorted them out.

I've had a win. No more banging or rattling. The shudder in reverse has gone too. I'm so happy it was not an internal engine problem...

You could set it up as full manual control with a straight gated shifter and a lockup switch I imagine if it is solenoid controlled with out the need for a tcm, but that's probley not that handy on the road in traffic. Can I ask what would be the Benefit of this tranny other than an extra gear? Not dissing the idea in any way (I love a good modification) but I'm not familiar with Toyota boxes and the aw4 is a pretty stout unit.
Cheers

Cant do manual on this trans...
it has multiple line pressure solenoids.

lower 1st gear ratio plus an extra gear sounds good to me

Aw4 is a toyota box.
The a650e is the replacement in toyotas.

Tell me about it Roler. All I was seeing was $ signs in my head. I thought she might be needing a new motor. I can't get rid of her though. Too much money spent and good times in her. I've had it for 3 years now and it's a bloody tough and reliable car.

Whilst I was crawling underneath I noticed the front crank seal is leaking again. I had it done when I bought the car. The rh upper arm has also tapped the edge of the sump too.

I was around JJ's a few months ago and he noticed my bump stops are gone on the front. So that explains that then. It's getting a lift kit next year so everything will be sorted. The 2" lift it had in it has sagged to about 1" below limited height. She's sitting real low in the rear and the fronts sagged too.

I don't give it a hiding off road but I do get into it. The 8.8 is going in too with the lift.
