Diesel ZG's exist and I suspect they have the same ratio as diesel XJ's, which is 3.73.

What everyone's said seems to confirm what I've thought. Everything in this truck is as it should be, the diffs are standard ZJ diffs and standard ZJ ratios and some know all yet know nothing mechanic reckons that because they're the same ratio as what a diesel XJ is someone's done swaps. I know diesel ZG Grands do exist, but not here and I doubt someone would ever go to the hassle of importing diffs from one.

I'll go ahead and tell the mechanic to go ahead and finish it up for me then.

ZJ D30 is different to XJ or WJ D30.
The ZJ has a long low pinion that crosses over with CJ.
No idea what your mech mate has sourced but really doubt diesel ZJ, nor XJ/WJ.
Yes all ZJs in Aust came 3.73 AFAIK.

Yeah, think they're saying the diff in it originally was from a diesel of some description. Having spoken to the guys doing the work it looks to me like someone was just talking out of their arse.
Unfortunately it's not my mechanic mate dealing with this, it's my mum's mechanic up the coast doing the work for me while I'm down home. Mechanical failures never happen when you're home, always a day's drive away when you're due back to work soon. Not ideal circumstances to get a perfect job done but that's how it is sometimes.
