Red face CJ - Help...

I'm looking for another tub and guards for my Sep '75 CJ5.

I have learned (thanks to AussyCJ7, Glenn and AJCJ5) that pre '72 will have the shorter bonnet and guards.

Questions:
- Is there much difference in the CJ5 tub pre and post '72? eg. Pedal brackets, firewall, chassis mounts, windscreen bracket etc?
- Is the front end on a post '72 CJ6 and/or CJ7 the same as CJ5?
- If a CJ6 or CJ7 has the low wipers, does this mean the front end will be the same as the CJ5 with low wipers?

Cheers guys, Cambo

Best place for this thread would be in early jeeps

Lots of difference with varying importance.

So given that instead of us all trying to remember and help you research them all why dont you spill the beans on exactly what you have and what you want to do then we can add our comments and guide you from there

firewall forward post 72 they are all the same with even a small degree of change over with the yj

firewall back they have the obvious differences but also some subtle ones a round the mid 80's for heater boxes firewall hoes for wiring etc

I have a 75 CJ5 running gear ready to go

Looking at buying a 62 tub to put on it. I want minimum hassle in doing so.

I also have an old CJ6 that has the low wipers (not sure what year). Looking at using the front end off that.

Thanks

You will be able to build just about any combination together it is just how much stuffing around you will encounter

What engine was in the 62 CJ as the australian combat 6 models changed the firewall to look like

here is a pic that may give you a concept of the shorter bonet/guards

thanks to JAA for the pictures for reference and if you want more details on the combat 6 and early cj they had a good issue some time back

I put a 74cj5 tub on a 56 chassis
wasn't that much drama
body work is easy on the early jeeps, mostly flat panels, and decent thickness metal
get a mig and learn how to use it, you'll have great fun
windscreen brackets are the same AFAIK

mudguards, bonnets and grills are all interchangeable from all cj5,6,7 and 8, 72 onwards,
all cj5 body tubs are the same dimension wise, there will be changes in body mounts through differnt years and firewalls, but you should be able to make them fit easy enough depending how good you are at fabricating. If your very good with a grinder and welder you could also shorten a cj6 body to cj5 spec, its actually pretty straight forward, done it twice myself.
windscreen frames are differnt too over the years but anything will fit so long as you change the windscreen frame hinges to suit, ie I have a cj7 windsreen frame on my 74 cj5 and I used the hinges from the cj7.
