for your remote, this is cheapest solution

if yr temp is 80, good chance yr thermostat has been gutted or removed

All thermostats I have had fail failed in the open position. The tell tail is the car takes a long time to warm up and usually never reaches its proper operating temperature.

Cheers guys. I'll purchase a thermostat in the morning I think. I am unsure if mine works. I'll need a gasket too I presume?

Yes another way to tell is to feel the top hose when the thermostat opens it will go from cooer to way to hot to hold quite quickly. You should be able to feel your it expand a bit as it is exposed to full pressure from the water pump as the thermostat opens. Good luck with it.

Crank sensor in yesterday, drove it a heap today and had no issues, got a new tstat and gasket (blank one,cut to size) so I'll do that this weekend. Getting registered tomorrow hopefully

then I need to sort out the knocking from the front left suspension. Ball joints?

The most common cause of a front suspension knock is often a bad lower shock bush.
