Old school...

If you want a glossy finish.

Get a small tin of high gloss enamel. Take the lid off. Place it in a pot of almost boiling hot water for about 15 minutes, keeping the water out of the paint and keeping the water very hot - just off boiling. Then take the pot of hot water with paint to the bar and brush the paint on hot. The heated paint flows but quickly cools on the steel. You can get a high-gloss finish that looks like you sprayed it.

Then figure out how to explain the mess in the kitchen to your wife. You're on your own there.

Alternatively, use hammertone. It hides a multitude of sins and can also be brushed on.

VHT make a pretty good hood and bumper urethane paint that i have had good sucess re-painting my front bar with, it does dry matt finish though, but seems to hold up well after 18 months

I'v never personally applied hammertone, so I cannot recommend a particular brand. I only mentioned it because the finish hides minor imperfections.

Which black color did you pick. Gloss or Matt? I painted my front hood and my flares and the plastic parts of my door with matt black from Septone. It looked great in the beginning but just a couple of trips thru the bushes caused the painting too look horrible, lots of scratches and you cant really buff it out anymore. I consider to paint it with raptor liner. That is at least sustainable.

Where did you get the carrier from and how much? I've looked on line and can only see a couple in the US who do them. How much to get it into Oz? Thanks.
