Must have been a slow news day if they covered the event 11 years late

Georgia,

You have raised a good question. I understand that many people on any 4x4 forum are not too worried about doing some form of 4x4 training. However, you will not learn all there is from doing a few day trips.

Safety is a big issue when 4x4. I have seen some people do stupid things when out 4 wheel driving. One being where some one stepped over a wire winch during a recovery. Others where people stand in the danger zone while using a snatch strap. I’m sure most of us have seen some stupid things when doing a recovery.

I’m all for a 4x4 driving training. There are more and more SUV and 4x4's on the road and heading off road these days that the QLD government are looking at introducing driver training.

They did it with motorbikes where now you need to complete a Q-Ride course to get an R license.

Yes it’s true some clubs do have driver training, but some clubs have no idea and just do not care what people do on the track.

Check the QLD government web site for info, you should find some there.

I'm wanting to focus on getting a strong understanding of 'the basics', vehicle limitations (I know, Jeeps dont have any ) and recovery.

Cheers

Personally I'd trust most club training than commercial driver training.
No doubt there are some good operators out there - but there are some (even the well known ones) that really don'tcompare to club training.

I have heard of trainers not suggesting correct tyre pressures, and MANY specifially tell attendees to leave the swaybar connected, then some of the tales I;ve gotten from people about recovery pratices with I personally stringently disagree with.......
Then the tales of up-selling products that they just happen to have on hand etc....

Oh yeah I've not done any driver training and have little interest as I think I'd get into frustrated debate with the poor bloke

I would think that 4WD training course is a good idea. It teaches the basic's
and get's you out there but joining a club after is even better as club days with experienced members are a great time and you will help keep you evolving and you can't beat safety in numbers. The important thing
is to only do something you feel comfortable with and it is amazing what you become comfortable with.

im with chook....definitely not a testosterone thing! you would learn more from the guys/gals you go wheelin with on the track than from a driving course

Ozjeepgirl and DizzyDi,

why not try a run with a club first before shelling out $$ for a formal course.
SCJC is having a Ladies Day soon so stop by www.sunshinecoastjeepclub.com.
We're a pretty relaxed bunch but there are some very experienced members.

How utterly stupid of me not to realise and ATV & 4WD vehicle are different ... they both have 4 wheels, go around in the same terrain/conditions and have a propensity to flip over causing death or permanent injury in the hands of someone with no/little knowledge & experience.

As for you azasjeep, I wouldn't be so blatantly rude & ignorant as you are when your comprehension skills appear to be absolutely negligible (re 11 year erroneous comment - how dare you poke fun, regardless of your misunderstanding), and, as for "telling my life story" as you describe it ..... if I can save one single life by warning others about the accidental death of a loved one then for as long as my ass points to the ground, I will, despite ridicule from the likes of you!!!!

I hear what you all say about going along on runs and learning from experienced members, but they're in their own vehicles enjoying the day, not there with the mindset to teach one from the absolute basics (like how to put it in 4wd) to simple driving techniques, surely?

I'm astounded that the public liability coys. don't insist wheelers pass a comprehensive test prior to being allowed off road ... keeping someone alive in a vegetative state for years costs millions!
