The lower control arms bottom out at the diff end on extension.
When I strip out this last Xj I will take some detail pics and add some dimensions and notes and post them up which will make things a little clearer...

I'm using Rancho adjustable's front and rear. My fronts are a 2" TJ Rancho shock. The rears are 4" Rancho which was a bit a of a mistake on my behalf as they are almost too long. Although the extended bump stops have sorted it so I don't bust the shock from over compression. One thing I had to do when fitting the rears was remove the lower sleeve as XJs seem to have a thicker lower shock mount. If you are buying from the US check things right out as that's why I stuffed up. Even after several hours I managed to end up with less than ideal rears.
As for dampening and handling I find the Ranchos pretty good, They seem to cross rough roads at around 90kph pretty well. I do have a little skipping on corrugations when cornering but not bad enough that I need to change anything and that is mainly on one road that I take which is a shitty dirt road corner.
As for the setting on my Rancho's I have wound it back to #1 as much over that I found the XJ rocked all over the place when offroading. I even found setting #3 too harsh. However on #1 I am happy with it on and off road and rarely change the setting.

The Jk's are the same as the Tj's in that the rear shocks are held on with a bolt where the Xj's are fited on to a stud hence the reason for no sleeve, it takes but a few minutes to press the sleeves out and then they fit straight on...

Apologies I should have been more specific. I wasn't over stressed about the sleeves; it was more the length. I should have got TJ ones that were for a 2" lift. But I used a parts catalogue and it made me think I needed the 4" ones as I thought they were for an XJ, which they weren't exactly.
