Default Project XXX

i've been dropping a hint here and there and things are still moving slowly...

partly because i don't have good tools since i left mine in the xj when i sold it down under.
partly because i don't have a shop or garage and it's illegal in germany to work on cars on the road.
partly because it's hard to re-adjust to real winters and i don't feel like doing much...

and partly because i'm not much on the boards lately...

BUT let's start bit by bit
i post one mod at a time...

first i got in contact with ARB again - i do like their lockers:

but it was hard to find a space for the compressor.
the diesel engine and components take up most of the space

ARB continues...
we got front and rear bumpers as well as the rocker rails:

the front bumper had to be slightly modified (unfortunately). here in germany we have the hassle of the TÜV (tech. inspection), a very picky sort of institution...
therefore we had to cut off the hoop because it is not 'pedestrian conform'.

on the rear bumper we did a little mod as well. we cut a hole to add the rear fog light...

and the rails

when i needed the roofrack i didn't see anything i liked. i didn't want to bolt into the sheet metal on the sides. i thought of placing a rack on the bumper, but if you hit the bumper, things move, after all it was going to be mounted on the windshield frame in front...

so i decided to build my own and designed what i thought was a clever idea and unique. as it turned out later some other people had the same or similar ideas
sitting the roofrack on the lip under the hardtop seemed like a good place for mounting...

well, anyway, i'm happy with it and it works really well. i think i can park a mini on top of that thing.

if you look closely, you see the tabs it is sitting on.
in the front it bolts to the windshield frame...
those are the tabs before the rack was welded on:

and here the current stage:
there will be a few more mods to finish it (to that later when it's done...)

just in case anybody is wondering:
i left the front intensionally open, so i can still remove the front hardtop panels...

that rack is awesome, like how it does need new holes to be drilled in the side of car
