Default Bending tube with a pipe bender ?

I bought a taiwanese pipe bender (13mm - 88mm dia cap) last Friday , basically a big jack and dies as I have a few roll cages to build for the Willys and J20

It bends boiler and water pipe beautifully but when I tried to bend exhaust pipe with it I ended up with a crushed and deformed bend

I've heard of using sand in the pipe (how do you seal the ends , weld or wood stoppers ? ) and I've also thought about using a smaller diameter piece of water pipe inside of the tube I want to bend

Any suggestions or ideas ?

This is the only thread I could find on the subject doing a Google search

With thinner walled stuff you need internal support to revent deformation.
Seal the ends with a welded in cap and fill with sand means whenyou bend, the material will keep it's shape MUCH better.
Or use thicker walled material.

Lol - nope I have 2 pipe benders.
1. Is a hydraulic jack/arrow style - which has a fair bit if bending grunt but SFA control and the dies are piss weak.
2. Hand bender - designed to be mounterd on a pedistool....great for small gauge and square tube - but just not capable of roll cage material.

Although I keep lusting after a tube shark I think I;ve accepted its outside my budget.....

I have had some success with Dawn formers bending thinwall stuff they are the catherdral type and give more wall support, I have bent "galtube plus" which has a wall thickness of 2mm without kinking, the former I bought was $120 so not cheap
