i did this to help the guys who have a grasp of it
and to save some of the lesser enlightend fron stuffing things up

HERES A PROCEDURE
yes attach the earth the mount on each side as yuo weld it make sure yuo have a good clean weld are and earth point
strike the arc on the mount that hasx the earth on it an then bridge the arc on to the tube that way yuo wont damage anything do one side then the other make sure the earth is attached to the side that you welding on.
when bothside are tacked then take the chill out of the tubes
use oxy a lpg torch heat gun or a hair dryer
take come along /chain puller as shown in pic and pre tension the opposite side of diff to weld this will minimise distortion
weld stich welds in sequence outside to centre 25 mm each perch then across centre of each perch side make sure earth is on the perch you are welding see attached pic for pre tension

I've got a problem with my brakes where the pads have worn divots into the knuckles. I've seen write ups of welding the divots, but I have concerns with welding the knuckle with appears to be cast (not sure if it is cast iron or cast steel). I'm after some advice if welding them is a good idea, and if so how should I go about it. I have a CIG 170 amp inverter welder, so advice on consumables would be good also.
