No! BMW service their diesels every 25k. It seems Jeep like you spending more money.

Hi guys,

Just joined this forum, from Perth WA, this thread has been an interesting read so far.

Just wanted to query a coupla things if i could.

I'm looking at buying a 2008 (newer engine & VIN code with the 8Lxxxx) with just under 100,000km on it

1. Does it have a DPF or is this only in the newer models
2. The engine oil pressure light is coming on at idle then going out again once you get moving, it's still at a car yard at the moment and is yet to have it's service/mechanical check.
3. Any problems with engine temps in our summer here in WA?

It's a manual not an auto, i do need it for towing and i'd regularly be towing up hill (Greenmount) but i'd rather manual for temp issues. Only towing 1t/1.5t max

Cheers for any info, thought i'd revive this thread than start a new one and be told to use the search function!

This would be a walk away for me. It maybe the oil is too thin but if the light comes on at idle then either there is a problem with the oil pump, pressure relief or too much clearance in bearings or some other thing. Diesels need good oil pressure all the time.

I had the oil pressure light problem when the smart mechanic didn't align the nipple on the oil filter cartridge, crushing it into place. I drop 1000ks until it was noticed and fixed, and thankfully over 10k later it did not cause any major issues.

Cheers

The manual seemed pretty tall around town, i think i only used up to 4th gear and even that was barely pulling any RPM.

Layback40 i agree with you if it's an actual oil pressure problem, but i read a lot of things about the sender or such causing the light to go off unnecessarily. So i'm yet to determine which it is. They have the car in their workshop for it's service now then they are talking about giving me an overnight test drive of it.

MidnightMods i understand the auto is sposed to be better for towing, but overheating issues come to mind for one thing, particularly living in the hills. Same thing steered me away from other auto CRD 4cylinders. There's a few threads around here on overheating CRD auto's. Even tho my father in law is an auto-trans mechanic i still don't like the damn things!

Do you happen to have a pic of it either set up incorrectly or correctly mate?

If i can solve the problem myself yet use the issue to haggle a bargain it could work out well......or not!

It's not actually at a Jeep dealership so they may not know the issue.
