What do you catch?

It is a bug, that will stay with you for the rest of your life, it will make you keep going back in dry or in flood, and no matter where you physically are, you will always remain "there" ....

The title of the thread should be changed to:

The Water is Finally Here.....

What a paradise
It's no paradise. Treeless, mud & slop everywhere, windswept & lots of flies. Around the lake would possibly be some of the most miserable campsites in Australia.

That may be the experience of some people, and depending on the season that one drives there, flies could be a major problem during the day - and mozzies can also ruin your evenings. They are like shift workers. You can almost see when one species disappears without a trace, and the other species takes over.

Mud and saline goop can also be a problem immediately after the lake has drained and you can be in it up to your knees.

As for campsites, every place is different. This is a place where you need to be prepared with your very own firewood - have to bring it in. But the idea of having a fire and campsite so remotely from the rest of the universe is something that you would get in very few other places.

Going there over the Easter break, looking forward to it.
Last time I was there it was bone dry.

I thought camp fires were banned in the area?

They are banned because -sadly- people cannot help themselves. We do all of our cooking on a methylated spirit burner. Having said that, nobody in their right mind would go anywhere in the desert in the middle of winter without a hefty supply of firewood. If a camp fire becomes necessary in such remote parts, people should do the right thing and remove any trace of it before they leave the area. We picked up our supply of firewood from mother nature. Fallen branches from the side of the road in the Flinders Rangers, near Akaba Woolshed would you believe???

From the website of Parks SA ...

http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/par...yre/visit.html

"Camping .....

No fires are permitted as dead vegetation is virtually non-existent in the park and is protected, so liquid fuel or gas fires only are allowed.
Observe fire bans - generally from 1 November to 15 April (call the CFS hotline for details 1300 362 361)."
