Since you have a gerni you might be able to acid out the tank? I tried but was unsucessful as my tank had baffles so I could not remove the loosend rust past the baffles. The difficulty will be soon as you remove the rust with water it will take less than 30mins to surface rust again, hence by the time it is dry it will already start to oxidise.

I mounted the washer bottle of an XG behind the wheel arch, and wired it up so that the beast is roadworthy. This was after my debacle of cutting into the existing one with a holesaw when i went to mount my snorkel.
