I have some LED spotties on the TJ and they pump out bugger all heat compared to the old halogen spotties you could cook toast on, so why do so many LED spotties have fins for dissipating heat?
Cheers guys - I've never noticed a heat build up with the LEDs probably because they are never on for an extended period of time but I will check on the next night run.
Led lights don't make a lot of heat but the electronics that drive them get hot and need cooling. Most high out put LEDs are switched on and off very fast. I've cut open some of the 60w LED lights we use on trucks at work and the heat sink on the back is not attached to anything so it seems more for looks. I have cut the heat sink back by 1/2 on my jeeps LEDs so they don't foul the winch and take a bit of weight off the mounts and they are still shining strong after a year
