Every key fob I've ever had was easy to change battery. Usually two halves are clipped together which can be popped open to reveal the battery. Buy a replacement and swap it in.

Some key fobs may be screwed together.

Make sure you check the battery size before buying the replacement.

I also steer clear of cheap Chianeseum batteries 'cos the key fob is too important.

If you struggle to open yours, post a few photos so we can see what size/shape you have.

HOW TO VIDEO:

https://youtu.be/aCokphWmHNA

Best battery to get is from a good Camera shop - they should have high performance versions of pretty much any battery.

I recall years ago when digital cameras were a new thing I had one that actually wouldn't even turn on unless I used special camera spec AA batteries from a Camera shop.

Thanks
Old Bob and Trailfirst. My Key fob is different to the video in that it is the one with the two lugs where it inserts into the ignition switch, there is a video on utube replacing the battery on a similar one which breaks apart with a long screwdriver, however mine does not have the gap to insert the screwdriver, but has a tiny screw in one corner, I assume that I will have to remove the screw to separate the two parts. I am not in FNQ at the moment, but freezing on the Sunshine Coast. Trailfirst, you have a Trailhawk similar to mine, do you have the screw in your fob?.

Oh bugger! - you know I had initially typed the question which one you had! Mine is same as the video - so yeah all you can try is take the screw out and use a screwdriver or thin blade to try and pop it open.

Hey also, if you haven't already got one of these in the link below, it sounds like it might be an option to give you push button start type operation. Where the description for that button says The car must have a push to start function to use the button - Im fairly sure they mean Keyless Entry and Go - which includes the stick in and turn style Keyfob.

Guy with username bundu I think is talking about this switch in this forum post: https://www.jeepcherokeeclub.com/thr...button.108162/

To elaborate, I think that bundu guy is saying the same setup shown in the following GRAND Cherokee video actually works in the KL with that type of Keyfob and turnslot dashboard socket: https://youtu.be/QGajy1-wx_k

It was pretty easy to change the key fob battery on my KL Limited. I just prised the key fob apart as shown in the owners manual(mine has push button start,so no screws to remove),replaced the original batteries with Japanese made Hitachi/Maxell batteries I got for a really good price on ebay, and all has been well since. As stated above, stay away from cheap Chinese batteries as they usually do not last very long, and I have even had some that leaked.
