You have been told wrong, by 12/95 the engines had already changed from the OBD1 (7120 head) variant with the alloy rocker cover to the OBD2 (0630 head) variant with the stamped steel cover, this occured around 7/95 for the 96MY Xj, the OBD2 variant uses a gasket, the OBD1 is chemical seal....

Thanks jj the motor is the alloy obd1 rc so not sure why it has a gasket it's definitely not the steel pressed cover as that's whats on the obd2 motor I pulled out of the xj.
To clarify I pulled the motor out of my 96 and put a 95obd1 motor/auto/transfer in using my intake, injectors,TB etc
So sounds like I will just use RTV silicone sealant then.

Second or third time this has happened in the last 2 weeks, cold start and drive not 5 min away and pull up and then a large coolant leak, the size of a small dinner plate. Drive a further hour or so and no leak at all. (yes it still has coolant) Went into a radiator shop for a look and he quotes me $140 to clean and re weld it all up. He said it is an all copper/brass radiator and would be a far better option than a new Ally one, he always has the new Ally ones come in to be repaired...
And 12 months warranty.
Think I am happy with that...

Bought a new Victa mower today (next to the old one, it reminds me of the Cherokee 2014 next to the XJ meme).
Looks like I bought myself a spare parts donor for the XJ....the (OEM) Champion spark plug is the same!

Moved it closer to the shed. Next step, rear axle removal.

Got jeep #1 started just before.
Didnt want to be giving everyone a bolt by bolt posting as I worked on it.
In the morning its getting the heads re-tensioned as per the instructions on head tensioning.
All worked fine so it looks like I didnt kill it.
