Default Something for KJ'rs to keep an eye on

Mine had developed a regular knocking noise from the front end. After looking around on the web I put it down to somnething that someone discovered with the kit's so thought nothing of it until it got to the point I was sure there was something amiss still.

Put it in at my regular spot (Overkill) to be called later in the day to say that nothing was loose to cause it, it was the fact the strat plates had cracked

I don't really wheel this thing hard as I have the TJ for that, but have had it off road enough and done trails I shouldn't have really done in a KJ over the time I've had it but haven't pushed it to the point of braking it (I believe)

So I thought I should mention it for everyone to look out for. I'm now at just under 100,000K. So maybe it's just age and earlier abuse from the Daystar phucksters I had in it in the early days.

I also suspect Jeep anticipated this as you can actually buy the the top plates as individual components, somehting others seem not allowed to do for some reason.

Problem is they are $235 a piece from memory.

I guess you mean Strut Top Plates not Strat Plates (Strats are guitars I thought!)

Interesting news.....not heard this one before. Did you have the 2.5inch Daystar pucks in the front with those Strut top plates or were you using the Daystar strut top relocation brackets with the pucks?

Dorzun, did the genuine metal strut plate crack in 2 or did the rubber centre section pop out ?
I've heard of the rubber centre mount delaminating from the metal part, but never heard of the metal plate itself cracking !!

The metal plate has cracked.

Not sure about the centre to be honest, it was in for a service and I asked the boys to loook at it for me. They had to put it back together so I have something to drive. Got some others on the way so will see them next week when they are pulled out.
