Default Where to source a brake master cylinder

Hi there!

Last week I bought my first ever Jeep, a 2011 2 door sport. On the test drive I noticed the brake pedal was very soft and spongy. I was hoping it just needed a brake fluid flush but the mechanic has found the master cylinder is leaking.

We're having some difficulty tracking down a replacement - none of the dealers appear to have any in stock, they are all quoting over $650, ex-US and 5-6 weeks for delivery.

I've contacted SBR and DBOR about the teraflex big bore master but they also have no stock till the end of December.

The mechanic has contacted all his usual sources with no luck and at the moment it looks like the only option is a used part from a wrecker.

Is there anywhere else we should be looking? Also I've noticed there are two different factory options - for 12" or 13" brakes. Should I be getting the 13" version? The description on the teraflex big bore unit says it's also recommended for 2011 wranglers with standard brakes.

Thanks in advance!

Default Where to source a brake master cylinder

Murchinsons products in qld, jeepkonnection in Melbourne, Jeep city in Canberra/ Nsw, rock auto in USA, Quadratec in USA is now my last go to...

Also why go the big brake? Personally standard ones are more than fine if you are turning 35s or less, and the cylinder really only complements the terraflex big brake kit.

As far as I’m aware brakes on Jks are the same..

EBay has Crown Automotive ones for sale in the US for around $150 plus postage. I’ve found Crown products excellent. They remanufacture heaps of Jeep parts. It will take a few weeks to get here but no way around that.

I'm with Jeep'ers, why spend the money on a teraflex big bore unit when the standard brakes work fine?

After I started towing a camper, I did upgrade the rotors to DBA T2 slotted with high performance Hawk pads and it made the world of difference. In fact now I'm driving a Grand Cherokee, I find me wishing for the stopping power I had in the JK.

True. If you can source a set of Black Magic pads out of the US you will be shocked at how much better they are.

Thanks for the tips on suppliers, but no luck. Found a few used options on ebay so we'll give that a go for now.

The teraflex sounded like a good option because it's about $300 cheaper than the genuine part but turns out there is no local stock.

Thanks for the tip on Crown - I'd seen them on eBay, will have another look.

I've also just found usautoparts.com.au - they have some options, but no brands mentioned. Has anyone bought from this site?

Thanks!
