Off road caravan
I am considering upgrading my current van which is a 23ft road van, 2390 kg tare,ATM 2790 kg , to a 21 ft off road van which will be about 2800 Tare, ball weight around 200 kg.
This will be within the car's limit, but pushing it close. I just wonder how the extra 500 kg will affect things, towing, fuel consumption etc.
My Jeep (2017 Laredo Diesel) tows my existing van easily and returns about 14.5 litres/ 100km on average.
Anyone out there towing something like 3.2t care to comment?

Howdy, I had a 24' full van at around 2650 kg loaded, now have a boat at
around 33/3400 kg and .4 of a metre higher. Fuel consumption has gone up
3 litres per hundred. The car stays in 6 th gear more often than 7th unless
the road is perfect. The car still has plenty of power up hills, just uses 1to 2 gears lower. Gearbox oil and engine oil temps remain the same.
regards Russell

Im considering buy a second hand Vistarv, the base model. Has anyone had any experience with these?
I think Numbthumbs might have one...
Anyway I'm paticularly interested in the dimensions to see if it will fit in my garage. On the website it says they are 2150mm high but is that an exact height? If I lift my garage door a tiny bit I think i can get 2160mm out of it.

Not sure if the Vista RV would have anything roof mounted (a/c, solar etc), but worth checking if those items are accounted for in the quoted height. The factory dimensions given for my van didn't include those, so had to allow extra for them.

I have had two, bought a 2010 Crossover. Loved it. Then sold it to buy a Crossover XL in 2015. I will probably get one of the new models - a Crossover XLI soonish. Call me a FanBoy!
There are no roof mounted solar panels or aircon standard ex-factory. Some owners have fitted their own solar panels, some glass, some semi-flexible, but they are relatively rare.
The 2150 mm figure is correct - depending upon tyre pressures! Some owners drop them a little to squeeze it in to a tight fit. Some have fitted slightly smaller tyres or even used a second set of smaller wheels just to garage one.
The Owners Forum is here:

PM me if you want any information...
Cheers
