Cheers guys. Will give it a go if the crank sensor doesn't fix it. I may just pay to get a new cam sensor and do that one too.

Question, when on the freeway my Jeep runs at around 80deg constant, when I floor it it jumps to around 100 then the clutch fan must kick in and cool it. Do I need to overhaul my cooling system? I wanna do thermostat, upper + Lower rad hoses and full coolant flush...

If your going over the cooling system it would be a good idea to replace the fan clutch. Only need to replace the hoses if they are old. BTW do you mean the thermo fan kicks in?

Anthony, no idea which fan kicks in but it sits around 80 odd deg cruising at about 100-110kmh then when I give it a boot full it jumps to about 100deg then it must be the thermo kicking in and cooling her down. Doesn't go above 100deg though...

Okay, I've had a look won't cost more than 150-200 to redo the cooling system which is nice.

Thermostat
Upper and lower hoses (mine look old)
Rad cap
Clutch for clutch fan
Flush system
Refill with 50/50?

Also is a Trans cooler standard on xj Cherokees? My car has one (Infront of the normal rad)

And is there a need to set the timing on these engines?

Standard transmission cooler is part of the factory radiator set up. If you have another in front of the normal radiator that is usually an aftermarket addition. Usual practise is for both to be connected, the aftermarket one in sequence after the inbuilt radiator element.

Replacing the bottom hose is a pita, you need to remove radiator fan and drop serpentine belt.

a few vids are available on utube:

I did mine a few months ago and still wear battle scars!!

Awesome! aftermarket cooler already installed was going to do this anyway until I saw it there the other day. Will have a look how it's routed though ie through the stock rad + cooler etc..

Yeah sounds like a pain, similar to doing the LHS engine mount where the AC compressor needed to be unbolted just to get the damned bolt out... I reversed the bolt-nut on the new mount when I put it back in..... far more intuitive...

I'll be careful with the lower rad hose though, if it looks fine I'll leave it
