Default Xj hard start and stall cold

So I had an overheating problem and replaced thermostat and viscous clutch. Now thats fixed
Next problem.

On a cold start it kicks over very weirdly, like it's clunking. then it will try to stall when I put it in drive. If I keep revs up it won't stall. If I drive off and then come go a corner and need to take my foot off the accelerator the revs will drop and just stall. Once it's warm it's fine and alsonstsrtd fine while warm.

I've charged the battery and no codes are coming up

Any ideas?

Sounds like your idle air control valve is gumed up. Remove it from throttle body
(Round shaped thing, google it) it's some times easer to romove the complete throttle body, clean passage out with petrol/carby cleaner, lube plunger shaft with a light oil and put it back together. If it runs with foot holding throttle just open a stuck/ failed IAC is the problem. Remember Google is you friend with jeep stuff

I gave it a good clean anyway as I could see that oil fumes have been gunking up the throttle body. Im waiting for the car to cool down and try to start cold and see what happens

plug IAC in with it out of throttle body and turn key to on position the plunger should move that's the part that's with the cone shape. From memory you can push And pull the plunger in and out a little. Spray Crc down the shaft and gently move plunger in and out to help free it up.The funny noise while cranking could be a shot starter motor dropping in and out of the ring gear

If you reset the cars computer it will erase the last position from the memory. Next start it will relearn and go from there. Another possibility is that the throttle position sensor is playing up.

I'm not fixing it, I'm improving it!

So it's definitely better now. It still has a rough idle at start but no stalling. I might need a new iac soon.

Resetting the computer could help?
