You definitely want to keep the NV4500.
Your current set up will as said bolt straight to the 360.
You will need flywheel and clutch. Can be bought from the states if you cant get local.
It will also bolt up to an LS1. Novak do all the adapters.
If you go the 360 you will need the engine mounts to suit the AMC V8 block to the frame. It is different to the FSJ.
These can be bought new from the states.
From memory the cast manifolds from the FSJ will fit ok, but I can remember messing with a bracket under the passenger side.
You want to run a twin system as the crossover pipe from the FSJ is very restrictive.

You can use the 6 cylinder flywheel, just need it rebalanced for the V8. Therefore I don't know why the clutch wouldn't work as well.

I have an AX-15 bolted up to my AMC 360; I used the wrangler flywheel and got it balanced to the auto flex plate, i also used a wrangler clutch and slave cylinder. I then have the FSJ 6 cylinder pedal box and master cylinder.

I'm guessing you would need to do something similar with yours.

Check out my Ride(s)
Default AMC 360 rebuild

I am restoring1979 CJ7 c/w AMC 360 previously fitted.don't like the idea of a Holden motor in my AMC build CJ7 1979 mine has the TH400 (yeah I know its GM box but it was std equip)
and a quad-a-trac transfer.

I got a new timing case cover, oil pump and a oil filter relocation kit from Bull Tear in the states and using boat freight from the states $100, also brought honing plate, don't thing to many local m/c shops would have one.

The guy in SA wants $500 to re-sleeve your own timing cover

Some of my parts brought to date
Holley 600 cfm
Edelbrock inlet manifold, rocker covers & air filter,
3 keyway double roller timing chain sprockets
Mallory HEI distributor
also from Bull Tear (new)
AMC V8 serpentine belt system
Oil pick up
Dip Stick & tube
SS breather tube and 360 scribe cap
Thermostat cover

full quality gasket set
Locker TH400 dip tube

When the time comes to pull it down the 360 (starting at the arse end for the restoration) about to get the AMC 20 re-assembled with Yukon R&P, Spartan locker and one piece axles, (off subject)

I have done a lot reading on the 360 oiling issues and going to do most of them for piece of mind while waiting for bit to come from the States when I know what other new parts need, torque cam, rings, pistons & bearing, roller rockers etc, had a quote fro Duncan Balancing for $3500 to M/C, blue print balance & assemble.

Never again. I could have put a big block in for the end cost. And they do not go hard for the money.
They are old school and a dog.
I am installing an LS1 to a CJ7 now.
Picked up a wreck from the auctions.
A statesman can be had for 1500.
You will also need.
Headers 400 Novak.
Sump conversion. 450.
Harness modified 400.
You will still be up for exhaust ands all other incidentals.
Adapter can be had to fit to trans. hat do you have.
This will have more output then an oild 360.
I went thru a similar decision process a few years back during my build up of my Waggie. In the end I stuck with a built 360, overall it is not bad but it is not overly impressive. The dyno tells me I have 190rwhp and that was on a 37 degree day and that is tuned for LPG, the Waggie runs 35's with 4.1 diffs. This isn't bad for an ol Skool V8. Economy wise I get 280-300 kms out of 58L of gas. And there is no carby issues whilst wheeling with LPG. .

Issues - oil leaks or should I say weeps, had to replace the rear main seal (not overly taxing just get access to a hoist, biggest issue was getting the sump clear of the header cross over pipe). Temp management - long hills whilst towing tend to drive the gauge into the silly zone, some more fault finding required in that area.

Really need another gear as 2800rpm @ 100km/h is just silly for a motor with soo much torque, I reckon 2300 would be ideal for cruising on a flat highway, good for the temps to.

Looking back I think that the extra money for a 6.0L and a T700 conversion or dropping a Toyota 4.5L TDV8 + 5spd out of a wrecked 76 would have - in the end been worth it. That extra grunt would have made up for the extra investment. We shall see what the future holds.

The 360 does sound pretty damn good tho.
