Never again. I could have put a big block in for the end cost. And they do not go hard for the money.
They are old school and a dog.
I am installing an LS1 to a CJ7 now.
Picked up a wreck from the auctions.

I went thru a similar decision process a few years back during my build up of my Waggie. In the end I stuck with a built 360, overall it is not bad but it is not overly impressive. The dyno tells me I have 190rwhp and that was on a 37 degree day and that is tuned for LPG, the Waggie runs 35's with 4.1 diffs. This isn't bad for an ol Skool V8. Economy wise I get 280-300 kms out of 58L of gas. And there is no carby issues whilst wheeling with LPG. .
Issues - oil leaks or should I say weeps, had to replace the rear main seal (not overly taxing just get access to a hoist, biggest issue was getting the sump clear of the header cross over pipe). Temp management - long hills whilst towing tend to drive the gauge into the silly zone, some more fault finding required in that area.
Really need another gear as 2800rpm @ 100km/h is just silly for a motor with soo much torque, I reckon 2300 would be ideal for cruising on a flat highway, good for the temps to.
Looking back I think that the extra money for a 6.0L and a T700 conversion or dropping a Toyota 4.5L TDV8 + 5spd out of a wrecked 76 would have - in the end been worth it. That extra grunt would have made up for the extra investment. We shall see what the future holds.
The 360 does sound pretty damn good tho.
