Pretty sad History. I worked at adealership when Chrysler relaunched here with the XJ and we could not supply parts for vehicles previously sold. I don't think this helped out the Brand either, thankfully that is some time ago now.

Many thanks for putting together the very interesting story. I remember one of the Sydney motor shows held at the show grounds in the 70's there was a CJ 6 in yellow, no roof or doors and the 2 person bench seat on the drivers side and a single seat on the passengers side. How I wanted it but just to expensive for me.

It is pretty sad to read about such a bad history. Jeep is sacred here in the US, but we did not have such production and quality issues with our units here.

Does anyone know the address of the old plant? I live in Salisbury and would love to know where it was.
Also, does that mean that all early 80s SJs you see today (apart from the odd import i guess) were built in Salisbury? Are the brisbane built vehicles coverted at all? I think it would be pretty cool to have an QLD built SJ.
Are there numbered SJs out there with "last ever...", "second last ever...", or "5 of 13 last SJs" etc?
